Kids Art

Parents,

Each child in the kids class (not preschool) needs the following items for art:

OLD SHIRT (to wear over their clothes)
SKETCHBOOK
SCISSORS
PENCILS
COLORED PENCILS

I think they have already been bringing everything except the shirt and scissors.  It is important for them to have their own items and bring them each week.  We will not be using everything each week, but we will be using these things more often than we did in September. Having access to these things each week will make our art time more successful.

Below is the plan for October:

OCTOBER 9th
*Video of Eric in his studio demonstrating how he creates his artwork
*Art Exploration:  Paint tissue paper after the style of Eric Carle

OCTOBER 16th
*Spend time looking at books by Eric Carle
*Art Exploration:  Create individual artwork using tissue paper from previous week

OCTOBER 23rd
*Book:  “Lines That Wiggle” by Candace Whitman & illustrations by Steve Wilson
*Art Exploration: Individual line drawings

OCTOBER 30th
*Pennies by the Inch with Vanguard Youth

Literature Homework Due Oct. 2nd

The children need to choose their favorite scripture hero and read the story in their scriptures.  Then, they need to finish the 4 notebook pages (Internal/External, Internal Character, Stewardship, and Mission in Life) for their scripture hero.

In class on the 2nd, they will have the opportunity to tell us about their scripture hero.  They can be as creative as they like--draw pictures, puppet show, dress up like their hero, clay figures.

Literature:

There are 4 new notebook pages.  They only need to do the first 2 pages (this is different than what I told them).  Please encourage them to do their best handwriting and fill the square with their colored picture.
Notebook pages:

  • Internal/External--write name on top, list characteristics. Draw a picture of themselves, paying attention to their external characteristics and depicting an internal characteristic.
  • Internal Character--list their gifts (try to help them list some "less-conspicuous gifts").  Draw a picture depicting one or more of their gifts
We will be covering the other notebook pages (stewardship and Mission in Life next week).  Then I will assign them to pick a scripture hero and they will be filling out these 4 notebook pages for their scripture hero and present it in class on the 26th.

Journal ?'s (This is optional and they can do all of them if they want to.  I will try to give them time to share in class if they would like.)
  1. Write/draw about your favorite family tradition
  2. Write/draw your earliest childhood memory
  3. What is the meaning/story behind your name
Don't forget to review the scripture and song with them.

Literature
September scripture: For behold, this is my work and my glory — to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.  Moses 1:39
**Please help your children mark the scripture in their scriptures and memorize it.

Memorization poem/song:  Every Star is Different (CS 142-43)

1. Ev’ry star is diff’rent,
And so is ev’ry child.
Some are bright and happy,
And some are meek and mild.
Ev’ry one is needed
For just what he can do.
You’re the only person
Who ever can be you.

A shining star, shining brightly,
Not so very far, shining brightly;
Be a shining star. Shine so brightly;
Shine right where you are, brightly!

2. I can shine for others
And let them feel my love,
Follow the commandments
That come from God above.
I can help another
To learn to choose the right.
Having faith and courage
Will let my star shine bright.

Notebook Pages
"All Through the Night" notebook page-for younger children, just draw a picture, older children draw a picture and write a few sentences.
Optional--Plan of Salvation activity:  color and cut out, then glue on a piece of paper in order.

**Notebooks--If your child is using one notebook, make sure they have tabs separating Literature from History.

A Few More Preschool Donation Requests

Please save and bring empty toilet paper rolls, this Wednesday. We also need feathers, old magazines to cut for collages, and butcher paper.
Thanks for all you can donate; it helps keep the costs down, and maybe put some items you've been holding on to, to good use.

Art Supplies

Each child in the 5-11 age group will need an 8 1/2" x 11" spiral bound sketchbook.  These are available at Walmart for around $4.  They will also need their own pencils, colored pencils, and pencil sharpener.  I think these are already on the supply list for History and Literature.
